I am 10,000!

I was born exactly 10,000 days ago. I read Johnson Kee’s article a few weeks back and immediately grabbed my calculator to find out what day mine would turn out to be. It turned out to be today.

This is Me. Photo credit

I am not naturally someone who attaches much significance to days like most people do. I see every day of my life the same way — a chance to put a smile on someone’s face, make an impact in the little world around me and improve on myself.

Today, however, I decided to do more than I would do normally. I am writing this post and sharing with the world. Normally, it would just sit in my journal for my eyes only. Coming across Medium a couple of weeks ago I must say is the biggest catalyst for my decision to start sharing some of my random scribbles. My thinking had radically changed to the point that Medium has become a part of my daily routine. I have even become a member.

So to today’s post — I have tagged it “THE SELF”

In my little life, I have come to discover that fundamental to most of the problems we face as human beings boils down to the SELF. Every human being is intuitively selfish. Self-preservation is our first instinct. It’s almost always about “What’s in it for me”

If you look down deep enough and ask yourself some challenging questions, you know this is true. Until we begin to re-evaluate and question some of the things that have become so natural to us, we run the risk of hurting the very people we think we care about. We must consciously reflect on our lives and in all that we do.

If we must create the kind of world where Justice and Peace truly are the order of the day, we must learn to love others as much as we love ourselves. Before you make that statement or do what you have planned, ask yourself if you would like to be on the receiving end of such word.

Living life this way is perhaps one of the most difficult thing to do, but it’s not impossible. I promise you won’t get it all at once. As humans, we are bound to fall short of our targets but what matters most is not beating yourself up when you make mistakes. Pick yourself up and continue where you left off.

Each one of us must come to the reality that if we do our own part, our world will be better. Nothing is more fulfilling than putting smiles on the face of people through the little things. We must learn to live selflessly.

My attempts at rambling are from my observations and the experiences I have had in life. As with all human writing, they are prone to prejudices. If you have any comment or feedback for me, fell free to leave a Personal note.
